Vesicles: Ampullaccous, non-adhesive evaginations of the column, simple or compound; with more or less numerous nematocysts (Carlgren, 1949; p. 10). Vesicles are hollow outgrowths containing all three layers of the column wall, and are often of considerable size and capacity, sometimes forming thin-walled bubble-like structures (Stephenson, 1928; p. 19).
