Sphincter Muscle: A circular muscle that functions to restrict the diameter of an opening. Sphincter muscles may be found at the margin of the oral disc and/or surrounding cinclides. In some sea anemones they are present at the base of the tentacles, so that when the muscle is contracted the tentacle is cast off.
