Septum: A term used to define the calcareous partitions present between scleractinian mesenteries (in Hard Corals). However septum is often used synonymously with mesentery when referring to hexacorallians. (Bayer, Grasshoff, and Verseveldt, 1983). The plural form of the word septum is septa.
