Pennon: The retractor muscle of a mesentery in transverse section often appears to be attached by only a small area, and the rest of the muscle lies freely into the cavity; having the form of a flag or a pennon and is therefore referred to as the 'muscle-pennon' (Stephenson, 1918: p. 7).
