Mesentery: Infolding of the endoderm and mesoglea extending from the body-wall into the gastrovascular cavity and partition the cavity. Some reach the actinopharynx (complete mesenteries), whereas others do not (incomplete mesenteries). Along the free edge of the mesentery runs a thickened rim, the mesenterial filament. The filament and the area alongside the filament is the chief digestive region of the mesentery (Stephenson, 1928: p. 34). Adjacent to this region is an area where the gametogenic tissue is developed. Between the gonad-bearing region and the body wall is the muscular region. The two faces of the mesentery are not equivalent, as each side bears its own characteristic musculature (Stephenson, 1928: p. 36). Mesenterial muscles.
